Typical daily obsession #2: Is that food healthy? local? organic? etc?

So I haven't figured out tomorrow's dinner yet. However, I could make it much more complicated for myself by worrying about where the meat is coming from. I am horrified, sickened, and depressed by CAFOs. And yet, I have not eliminated meat from them yet. Lessened, but not eliminated.

The pork tenderloin in the freezer? almost definitely CAFO. The lamb? not purchased yet, but I have yet to find 100% pasture-fed lamb around here, so probably CAFO too.

How bad is it that we eat CAFO meat? I don't know exactly, but I know it would be much healthier to not. For tomorrow, I will settle for fresh organic vegetables. The meat will be a problem for another day.

Typical daily obsession #1: What's for dinner?

I love my CSA, Eatwell Farm.
Here is the list of what is coming tomorrow, fresh from the farm:
  • lettuce
  • pomelo
  • Navel oranges (2 lbs.!)
  • bok choy
  • spinach
  • red kale OR chard
  • radishes OR beets
  • spaghetti squash OR butternut squash
  • parsley
  • arugula
  • white daikon
  • 6 eggs
OK, time to start thinking about what to cook. We have a friend coming for dinner tomorrow night. However, I have a hair appointment in the afternoon, so I might not have much time. One option is to pull out the slow cooker (although Jon is not such a fan of it): a lamb curry recipe sounds interesting. Another possibility is that old favorite, the pork tenderloin. Either dish might go nicely with the peach chutney that our neighbors made. Or -- butternut squash soup! I think I saw an interesting one in Food & Wine recently.

Looks like we will definitely be having sauteed greens alongside.
